Claire adds world silver medal to Rio bronze

Withcott athlete Claire Keefer has continued her international success.

ATHLETE Claire Keefer has added a world championships silver medal to her growing collection.

Her latest reward comes after she won the Paralympic bronze last year.

The Withcott athlete with the Ipswich and District Athletic Club finished second in the F41 shotput for athletes with short stature at the World Para Athletics Championships in London.

Keefer, 22, was in fourth when she produced a bigger effort.

Her throw of 8.41 metres lifted her into silver medal range behind Tunisia’s Raoua Tlili.

“I’m overwhelmed, I most definitely wasn’t expecting that,” Keefer said.

“I came in with an injury, and for that reason I never expected to finish on the podium.

“Being in fourth position for a while made me nervous, but I managed to bump myself back up into medal position pretty quickly.

“Then for my final throw, my coach John (Eden) said if he had to carry me off the field, he would, so I put everything into it and I got there.”
