Fine efforts, top hit-out help Ipswich athletes

Ipswich and District Athletic Club runner Montanna McAvoy.

INSPIRATIONAL Kyra Domrow was among the Ipswich and District Athletic Club competitors who benefited from a recent hit-out before this month’s Queensland Junior Championships.

Montanna McAvoy, Rochelle Vidler, Tyler Stolberg and Benjamin Thomas also contested the recent Queensland Open Championships at QSAC.

They are preparing for the Queensland junior titles from February 22-25.

Turning 20 in June, Domrow has moved into the senior ranks.

Club coach Vic Pascoe said the latest experience was valuable as the Ipswich contingent were in a much higher level of competition.

Ever-consistent McAvoy led the way at her latest meet, winning the 3km steeplechase.

McAvoy, who turns 18 in July, covered the trip in 10 minutes, 31.11 seconds.

Ambulant athlete Domrow won her discus event with a throw of 29.77m (62.81%).  She also won the shot put with a 9.94m (66.05%) effort.

Vidler, 17 next month, stepped up into the open ranks to finish fourth in the 4kg hammer event with a personal best 51.73m throw.

Stolberg added to her competitive development with a personal best throw of 10.79m to finish eighth.  She turns 18 later this year.

After a terrific end to 2017, 16-year-old Thomas came 22nd (11.46s) in the hotly contested 100m event.
