Always next year

THE annual Ipswich Mile Gift and support foot races at Bundamba were another huge success.

Winners of the main handicap race and shorter 300m Gift were puffing after their testing runs on the Ipswich Turf Club sand track.

One of the most noteworthy efforts came in last Saturday’s 300m race.  Being “75 years young”, Paul Adams ran the race of his life off his 95m handicap.

“Give me another 5m and I would have won after leading with 30m to go,” Adams said.

Maybe next year Paul.

Ipswich and District Athletics Club president Bailey Pashley provided another lighter take on the tough racing for those not accustomed to distance work.

“I had one (athlete) in this last year and he threatened never to do it again,” a smiling Pashley said, referring to sprinter Doug Amiss.
