It started out slow, but the pace picked up quickly at the 2016 Big 12 XC Championship. The men’s race was won by Texas Tech’s Bernard Keter, but the team title went to the Oklahoma State Cowboys for the 9th year in a row.
Sharon Lokedi of Kansas won her first Big 12 XC Championship while the Iowa State women take back the Big 12 XC Championship team title.
Texas Tech teammates Benard Keter and Miguel Bautista went 1-2 on their home course in Lubbock to claim the Big 12 championship individual title and runner-up finish.
All American Sharon Lokedi claimed her first Big 12 cross country title by making a sudden move that put her competition in the dust. Watch Lokedi react to the performance which improved upon an 11th-place finish at last year’s championship.
The NCAA indoor 1500m champion has returned to compete for Oklahoma State after recovering from injury in the summer. OCTOBER 2016: We were in Stillwater, Oklahoma while the #10 Oklahoma State men and #23 women did hilly mile repeats on the cross country course. This weekend, the men will try to win their ninth straight Big 12 XC title while the women are gunning for their second in a row. You can watch the Big 12 Championship live on Saturday. Erik Gonzalez of Rubidoux and Joaquin Martinez de Pinillos of Cathedral Catholic battled to the quickest and closest battle of Friday night in the D3 Sweepstakes, as Gonzalez pulled out the win in 14:37.61 to 14:37.72. In the girls D3 Sweepstakes, La Costa Canyon sophomore Kristin Fahy ran the fastest time of the day in 17:35.
1:48 high schooler Brandon McGorty committed to Stanford today, setting up a potential McGorty to McGorty 800m-1600m DMR exchange in the 2018 track season. After the interview, Brandon reached out to make sure that his appreciation for coaches Powell, O’Sullivan, and Gondak–the three distance coaches at the other three schools he was considering–was known. He also gave a shoutout to Chris Solinsky for coaching his older brother at William & Mary.

We were in Cambridge, MA for a workout with the Harvard women. The Crimson are No. 22 and Courtney Smith is No. 11 in the Saucony Flo50. The Workout: Group 1 (Courtney Smith, Judy Pendergast): 3x3000m w/1:30 rest, 1x1500m, Smith hit 10:49, 10:33, 10:25, 4:52. Pendergast went 10:49, then switched to 1500s and ran 5:16 and 4:52. Group 2 (Erin Dietz, Elianna Shwayder, Brooke Starn, Lisa Tertsch): 5-6x1500m w/1:30 rest. This group went 5:19, 5:14, 5:16, 5:16, 5:13 for the first five, Shwayder ran a sixth in 5:28
We were in Terre Haute to live stream the 2016 adidas Pre-National XC Invitational. After the race, Oregon’s Edward Cheserek said he treated the race like a tempo run. We didn’t know it but we were actually witnessing a King Ches workout live. The Workout: 8k Tempo Run. 1K Splits: 2:50/3:06/2:56/3:00/3:12/2:48/2:51/2:48. Mile Splits: 4:44/4:50/4:58/4:35/4:33 (last mile is a pace not a split)

The men’s championship race at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational came down to the final 400 meters, and it did not disappoint. NC State’s Sam Parsons had a large lead, but Syracuse’s Justyn Knight showed off the kick that beat Galen Rupp this summer.

Justyn Knight of Syracuse took down a loaded field to win the 2016 Nuttycombe Wisconsin XC Invite in 23:53. With victories over Futsum Zienasellassie and Sean McGorty, Knight will head into the NCAA Championships as a major contender.
Brenna Peloquin of Boise State took down a loaded field to win the 2016 Nuttycombe Wisconsin XC Invite in 20:00. This was Peloquin’s second major victory of the cross country season after her dominating performance at Roy Griak.
